Exemption (h) of Schedule 1
A building consent is not required for the following building work:
(h) the construction or alteration of any temporary storage stack of goods or materials.
Guidance
This exemption allows the construction of any temporary storage stack of goods or materials. Temporary means lasting for only a limited period - examples include the construction period of a building project or the storage and stacking of goods while re-locating etc.

- A construction firm is moving location. It erects a temporary storage rack on its new site to store timber and wood products. Its new premises will contain a new storage area and the temporary storage rack will be removed once completed.

- A joinery factory constructs a 4 metre high racking system to store materials for use in the manufacture of aluminium windows. The intention is that the racking system is to be used indefinitely. This work would not be considered temporary, so will require a building consent.
