Building and Construction Sector Forum 24 July 2009

The second Building and Construction Sector Forum was held in Auckland on 24 July, 2009.

Over 100 industry and central and local government leaders joined the Minister for Building and Construction, Hon Maurice Williamson and associate Finance Minister, Hon Steven Joyce at the Forum. They discussed the direction of the sector and heard the findings of two industry-led taskforces which were established at the first Building and Construction Sector Forum held in Auckland in August 2008.

Sector Productivity Taskforce

The Building and Construction Sector Productivity Taskforce, chaired by the Director of Property Services at the University of Auckland, Peter Fehl, highlighted the need to improve building and construction sector productivity by developing a sector-wide skills strategy and improving the procurement of construction projects.

Urban Taskforce

The Urban Taskforce, chaired by the President of the NZ Institute of Architects and the Chair of Jasmax, Richard Harris,  identified ways to improve urban development by removing barriers, and reducing the cost, of quality urban development projects.

Recommendations from both Taskforces will be considered by the Cabinet and a Government response to the Taskforce’s recommendations will be announced.
