BC Update: No.54 - Building Consent Authority Accreditation Preparation and Self Assessment Guide

19 February 2007: The Department has released the Building Consent Authority Accreditation Preparation and Self Assessment Guide.

This guide is intended for territorial and regional authorities and private bodies as a tool to help them assess their existing building control policies, processes and procedures, against the requirements of the Building (Accreditation as a Building Consent Authority) Regulations 2006 [PDF 86 KB, 15 pages]. The guide will help these organisations make informed decisions about the preparation and self-assessment work that needs to be done for accreditation as a building consent authority.

The guide is designed around applying a good business and technical practice framework to building control in New Zealand and will:

  • help building consent authority applicants prepare their policies, processes, and procedures for accreditation assessment and ongoing compliance
  • help organisations assess how well existing policies, processes, and procedures comply with the accreditation requirements
  • help organisations establish how well their existing or new systems are implemented
  • provide good practice guidance that may be used (or adapted for use) by building consent authorities to demonstrate compliance with the accreditation standards.

The printed guide will be distributed free of charge to all territorial and regional authorities and private bodies very soon. In the meantime, it can be downloaded from the Department’s website.

For further information about this guide and the building consent authority accreditation scheme please contact one of the Department’s BCA Accreditation & Registration project team members on 0800 242 243.
