*ARCHIVE* - BIA Update 44 - Consultation on changes to H1/AS1 23 Nov 2004
The BIA seeks public comment on its proposal to reference the amended New Zealand Standard NZS 4218: 2004 ‘Energy efficiency – small building envelope’.
This amended version of the Standard would replace NZS 4218: 1996 which is currently referenced in clause 2.0 of Acceptable Solution H1/AS1 for housing of any size, as well as other buildings up to 300 m2 in area.
The amended Standard effectively requires double-glazed windows in most new houses and small buildings in Climate Zone 3 (all of the South Island, plus the North Island central plateau).
For space heating, Clause H1 does not apply to industrial buildings or assembly service buildings. Assembly service buildings include clubrooms, theatres and halls. Additionally, it does not apply to buildings not used for human habitation, such as farm buildings and garages. The proposed change therefore does not affect these types of building.
