*ARCHIVE* - BIA Update 46 - Consultation on changes to the Approved Documents for the Fire Safety clauses 29 Nov 2004
The Building Industry Authority (BIA) seeks public comment on three separate aspects of the Fire Safety Clauses. They are:
- changes to the minimum fire ratings for fire separation
- changes to requirements for Early Childhood Centres (ECCs)
- incorporating the latest revisions to three New Zealand Standards.
The proposed amendments to the Acceptable Solution, C/AS1, include:
- increasing the minimum fire resistance (F) ratings required from 15 minutes to 30 minutes (except in certain cases relating to intermediate floors)
- clarification of the definitions of S and F ratings
- amending Appendix D to the Approved Document in light of changes to NZS 4541 and NZS 4515
- identifying Early Childhood Centres (ECCs) as FHC2
- requiring smoke detectors in sleeping areas of ECCs.
In addition, a minor amendment is proposed to the Approved Document for Clause F7 Warning Systems regarding citation of Standards.
