Review of the Building Code

27 May 2006: The Minister for Building and Construction announced an important milestone in reviewing the New Zealand Building Code at the Certified Builders Association of New Zealand Conference on 27 May.

The Building Code is being reviewed with input from consumers, the building industry, and central and local government.  The purpose of the review is to ensure the Building Code meets the requirements of the new Building Act. The review will be completed by 30 November 2007.

Media release  from the Minister for Building and Construction.

Strong interest in the Building Code Review

Submissions on the discussion document Building for the 21st Century, Review of the Building Code have now closed. More than 300 submissions were received from a wide range of individuals and organisations with an interest in buildings that are safe, healthy and promote wellbeing and sustainable development.

The submissions are now being analysed. A summary of the submissions will be published on this website when the submissions have been analysed.

The review represents a significant leap forward in what a Building Code can do for the country. We now have an opportunity to shape the future of our buildings and ensure they deliver the right social, economic and environmental outcomes for us as building users and as a nation.

Once the review is completed, there will be different performance standards for buildings.

The comments made in these submissions will help shape the direction for a second discussion document to be published in the first half of 2007.

The document is still able to be downloaded.
