Project records and Project records questionnaire

The project records form asks you to provide information on two recent building projects that you have worked on or where you supervised the carpentry work. At least one should have been completed within the last 2-3 years.

How to choose your projects

There are number of tick boxes at the end of each project records form, showing activities done regularly by competent carpenters. Use these boxes to help you choose your projects - together your selected projects should cover as many of these activities as possible. You may tick the same or a different combination of boxes for each project.

Your referees must be able to confirm that you did this work competently.

Each project records form asks for:

Project name/location: This may be the name of a particular building (eg Pennzal House) or a name that this particular project is known by (eg Brown's beach house Peka Point). The location should be the physical address (street address or lot number), not a postal address (eg PO Box).

Dates and times you worked on the project: Please put the dates and length of time you worked on the project.

Client: This may be the building owner or the person or company you worked for.

Size, type and complexity of building: For example, describe whether the building was residential, commercial or industrial; approximate square metres or number of storeys; range of roofing, foundations, cladding materials used etc. There should be greater detail for more complex buildings.

Your role in the work: For example, state whether you were the carpenter, leading hand and/or supervising other carpenters.

List the subcontractors involved with you on the project, and how you worked with them: List the types of subcontractors you were involved with in each project by role, not by their name (eg roofer, plumber, electrician, door/window manufacturers etc), and describe how you were involved with them.

Your involvement in the consent process: Describe any involvement you had in the building consent process for the project (such as organising inspections or dealing with the council).

Site safety practices in place: Briefly describe the safe working practices that were in place on this site.

What work did you do on this project? Use the tick boxes to show what your work on that project covered. You can include other work you did in the space below 'Any others'.

Problems you had to deal with: Examples of problems may include late delivery of materials, poor weather conditions or access to the site, relating to the project.

Note: Your assessor may ask your referees about any of the information you have provided in your project records, to confirm that you did the work competently.

Project records questionnaire

Important: Answer the following question to find out whether you need to complete the questionnaire.

Have you completed one or more of these qualifications and can you supply a copy of your certificate?

  • Certificate of Due Completion of Apprenticeship (Carpentry or Carpentry and Joinery)
  • National Certificate in Carpentry
  • National Certificate in Carpentry (Advanced)
  • Trade Certificate in Carpentry
  • Advanced Trade Certificate in Carpentry
  • New Zealand Certificate in Building

Yes and No checkboxes.

If you answered YES you do not need to complete the questionnaire.

If you answered NO you must complete the questionnaire.

If you have a qualification, this will help demonstrate that you have the underpinning skills and knowledge to perform competently as a carpenter. If you don't have a qualification, you can demonstrate your knowledge in more detail by filling out the questionnaire.

The questionnaire asks you to briefly describe what you did at various stages of your selected projects.

You may find that not all of the questions relate to your projects. The last two questions(6a and 6b) may be more relevant if your selected projects include a commercial building.
