Timber on Tour
Issues surrounding timber grading, classification and treatment are consistently high on the list of topics that come up through the BRANZ industry helpline. They are also consistently high on the list of seminar topics requested by seminar attendees through their seminar evaluation forms. In this nationwide seminar, suitable for most sectors of the industry, the most pressing issues are identified and the latest information on them presented to attendees.
Do you want to know:
- the reasons behind the changes in timber grading and treatment options?
- the impact of timber treatments on other building components?
- how to correctly identify timber grades and timber treatments?
- the key reference documents?
- where to access information on timber availability (for given sizes and treatments)?
- about lintel design tools?
Attendees will come away with a better understanding of:
- how framing and cladding timber is graded and the implications of grading for the end use
- why the span tables for timber in NZS 3604 have changed
- the key requirements of NZS 3602 with respect to specification of timber framing and cladding
- the treatment classifications and impact of the timber treatment chemicals used on the durability of metal (and other components)
- where to go to find the available timber sizes and/or treatments for their local areas
- how engineered timber sections (eg LVL) can be integrated into design
- the research BRANZ is currently undertaking on timber usage
- how specific designers need to be in their documentation at consent stage
- FAQs about timber specification and usage.
