New industry code of practice for torch-on membranes
Torch-on membranes are an alternative solution to the Department's weathertightness Acceptable Solution E2/AS1. Since 2004, a group of supply and installation companies, called the Membrane Group New Zealand, has been drafting a generic code of practice that focuses on double-layered or multiple-layered torch-on membrane systems for New Zealand conditions.
The newly published document entitled the 'Code of Practice for Torch-on Membrane Systems for Roofs and Decks' provides valuable guidance to the construction industry on the group's recommended best practice for the selection and weathertight detailing of torch-on membrane cladding to roofs, decks and gutters, etc.
The Department congratulates the Membrane Group on its initiative in producing this code of practice. It is encouraging to see industry groups creating their own well-developed and codes of practice to complement Departmental guidance and Compliance Documents. However, the sector should note that this code is not part of the Department's Compliance Documents or its range of guidance documents.
We look forward to the code becoming a useful resource for the industry to assist with selecting, designing, installing and assessing torch-on membrane systems.
