Assessor, National Multiple-Use Approvals Service
The Department of Building and Housing is establishing a new service to achieve time efficiencies and cost-savings to ‘volume builders’, where their standardised building designs are replicated several times. The National Multiple-Use Approvals (NMUA) service will provide volume builders with ‘pre-approval’ for Building Code compliance, through assessing their designs against the Code and creating a seamless service between the Department’s approvals and local consenting processes. This initiative has been introduced as a direct result of industry requests.
The Assessor is one of the three key roles in the team. This position provides technically robust assessments of building designs and plans against all relevant Compliance Documents, manages relationships with key customers, contributes to the positive improvement of the process and relationships, and achieves the goals and outcomes of the NMUA scheme.
Ideally, you will have extensive experience in the regulatory building control industry, including the Building Act 2004, the Building Code and other relevant pieces of legislation, and will have a proven track record applying such legislation. Along with your ability and credibility in the sector, you will be technically proficient at assessing building designs for Code compliance. Your efficient, pragmatic and thorough decisions will minimise risks to consumers and the Crown, while increasing industry efficiencies and cost savings.
In return you and the team will lead positive change in the building consent environment, your input will be valued and sought, and you will have the satisfaction of directly contributing to the success of a new venture designed to add value to the building industry. As a technical specialist, there is plenty of opportunity for personal development in this role, especially in respect of customer and stakeholder relationships and improving scheme performance.
