Skills maintenance training providers

To remain licensed, Licensed Building Practitioners (LBPs) need to show that they are keeping up with changes to the industry. The Licensed Building Practitioner Scheme refers to this as ‘skills maintenance’.

Skills maintenance is about LBPs staying on top of their game. By maintaining skills and knowledge, LBPs can work more effectively, minimise errors and costs, and improve workplace safety. The aim is for high quality and safe buildings, and consumer confidence.

You can apply to have an activity approved even if it is not your core business. You must ensure that the competencies of the licensing class/es are met and the activity is beneficial to LBPs.

Once an activity is approved, an LBP can accrue points from that activity towards their skills maintenance record.

You will be able to promote your activity by:

  • displaying the LBP logo which gives you the ‘mark of quality’, denoting awareness and trust.  Displaying the LBP logo means your activity has been approved by the Registrar and the activity is aligned with the LBP Scheme
  • advertising via the Licensing Update newsletter.

To find out more about the scheme in general you can read Is Licensing for Me?

Using the LBP Logo

Training providers offering activities approved by the Registrar for the purpose of skills maintenance can use the LBP logo. The LBP logo may only be used once permission is gained from the Registrar.

The LBP logo is the key element of the Licensing Scheme. The Department of Building and Housing has strict guidelines about the reproduction and use of the logo.

The LBP logo must not be altered in any way. The LBP logo may only be used in its entirety. This means that no alterations may be made to the graphic proportions of the LBP logo, its colour or individual elements. However, the LBP logo can be sized to meet requirements and may be used in black and white.
