Eligibility

Who can apply?

Multiproof Eligibility.

To be eligible to apply for MultiProof approval, you need to have the intention and the ability to build the approved design at least 10 times in a two year period.

The Department may require additional evidence of your business ability to replicate the design several times. This evidence may include records of company history, ownership, management, financial position, and business or marketing intentions.

What building types are eligible?

MultiProofs are only available for whole buildings. Building products, building systems and part-buildings are not eligible. If you wish to have a specific building product or system approved, you should refer to the Product Certification information.

There are no limits on the type of building that is eligible for MultiProof approval.

Examples of building types which may benefit from MultiProof approval include:

  • garages
  • sheds
  • farm buildings
  • other outbuildings
  • dwellings (detached, semi-detached, single or multiple stories)
  • modular units
  • retirement village units/houses
  • housing developments
  • container building designs
  • commercial premises
  • tents/marquees

A MultiProof approval can be issued for a flexible building design involving building modules and the connections between them. In this way you will generally be able to put the building together in the best way for each specific site.

Is MultiProof right for you?

MultiProof approval can be very beneficial for builders and companies who build high numbers of standardised designs. If you answer yes to the following questions, then you should consider applying for MultiProof approval.

  • Do you build high numbers of standardised or highly similar designs?
  • Is saving time and money a priority when applying for building consent?
  • Do you want to ensure that there is consistency when applying for building consents to different BCAs?
  • Do you want to be able to reassure your customers that this design will gain building consent?
  • Is the design for a building as defined in the Building Act 2004?
  • Is the design for an entire building (as opposed to a building product or building system)?
  • Do you have the intention and the ability to replicate the approved design at least 10 times in a two year period?
  • Do you have a standard design that is sometimes modified for clients?
