How to apply and application form

  • calling the Advisor, Client Services for the National Multiple-Use Approval service on 04 817 4254
  • email us to have an application form sent to you
  • downloading the form here [PDF 450 KB, 16 pages]

You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to view and print the application form. If you do not have Adobe Acrobat Reader, please follow this link to the Adobe site Link to the Adobe website. to download a free copy.

All applications must comply with the New Zealand Building Code. This means that applications must be accompanied by a full set of buildable plans, specifications and engineering calculations (as appropriate) to show that the building, once built, will comply with the Building Code.

When filling out your application form, you should ensure that all questions are answered in full and all the necessary supporting information is provided. This will avoid delays in processing your application and it will move more quickly to the assessment phase. If we find that some important information has not been provided, we will contact you and will require you to send us the requested information before the assessment process can begin.

We strongly recommend that you contact us at an early stage so that we can help you prepare your application, which will help to avoid delays during processing.

Customisations

Your clients may want to make some small changes to the standard plans to suit their tastes and requirements. The MultiProof approval can include a range of customisations so that your clients can create their ideal design by choosing from a variety of approved options.

When applying for a MultiProof, it is important to include in your application all the customisations to your basic building design that you may wish to make in each individual build. In deciding which customisations to include, you should think about common modifications that your customers normally request.

These might include:

  • Changes to the type of cladding
  • Changes to window or door locations
  • Variations to the floor plan (eg adding another bedroom)
  • Changes in roof pitch
  • Options for different wind and earthquake zones (eg bracing up to a certain level)
  • Options for different climate zones (eg insulation levels)
  • Inclusion or exclusion of eaves

The Department is unable to approve customisations that have not been included on the application form or that are not supported by sufficient technical information.

If a MultiProof approved design is being assessed for building consent and there have been any changes to the design that are not included in the MultiProof approval, the MultiProof will be invalid and the BCA will need to assess the whole design (where standard BCA consenting time and fees will apply).
