Applying to be licensed

Application packs are now available for the first seven licence classes. You are able to download or request an application form which will include guidelines on what you need to supply with your application, eg qualifications, CV and references.

Licensing for the Design, Site and Carpentry licence classes began on 1 November 2007.

A detailed booklet, Is Licensing for Me?, has also been provided to help people decide which licences to apply for.

The Scheme will operate on a cost-recovery basis. The fees for becoming licensed have been finalised and are now available.

Applicants will be assessed in terms of whether they have the required skills, knowledge and experience for the licence class applied for.

Once a practitioner is licensed, he or she will receive a plastic licence card that will look something like this.

The names of all licensed building practitioners will be listed on an online register, along with details of their licence status. This is to help employers, customers and clients find suitable building industry professionals and confirm that they are licensed. The register will also record any disciplinary action taken by the Building Practitioners Board against individual licensed building practitioners.
