Discussion paper on regulations to support the Unit Titles Act 2010

From the Minister

When the Unit Titles Act was created in 1972, most unit title developments consisted of small blocks of flats in the suburbs. Today, the variety of unit title developments is much more extensive, and includes residential and commercial properties.

The Act needs updating to reflect these changes and introduce flexibility to cover the range of unit title developments.

The Unit Titles Act 2010 introduced these changes and updated the legislation. Parliament passed the new Act on 1 April 2010.

I would now like your input into the proposed regulations to support the new legislation. This discussion document describes cases where the legislation requires certain matters and processes to be described in more detail by the introduction of regulations. In addition, it covers matters where the legislation contains discretion whether to regulate certain matters and processes. The discussion document contains proposals for the form and content of these regulations.

It is important for you to let me know what you think of these proposals. I am particularly interested in hearing what impact the proposals may have on you. Your submissions will help shape the form and content of these regulations.

I would like to thank everyone who has contributed so far to the review of the Unit Titles Act and now invite your further input for this stage.

Hon Phil Heatley
Minister of Housing
