*ARCHIVE* - Submissions on proposed weathertightness changes close in two weeks - 25 Jul 2003
This is a reminder that the consultation period on the BIA's proposed changes to Clause E2 of the building code and to approved documents E2/AS1, E2/VM1 and B2/AS1 closes at 5pm on Friday 8 August 2003.
The proposed B2 changes address issues around the use of treated and untreated timber, and include the proposal that all timber framing in new residential buildings be treated to a minimum level of H1.2.
Those related to E2 address the management of external moisture in residential buildings.
The proposed changes are designed to lessen problems related to weathertightness and have been prepared in response to the recommendations of the Report of the Overview Group on the Weathertightness of Buildings (Hunn Report), the report of Parliament's Government Administration Committee and the BIA's own work in these areas.
All interested parties are invited to comment on the draft proposals.
Copies of the consultation documents can be obtained from the BIA website www.building.dbh.govt.nz or by calling the BIA on 0800 242 243 or (04) 471 0794.
